Independent insurance agent Mark Lancaster opened The Lancaster Agency at 1615 North Riverfront in November 2010.
“I grew up in Amboy, went to Maple River High, and was on the 1993 state championship team,” said 35-year-old Lancaster in a telephone interview. “Through basketball, I learned goal-setting, hard work, and accomplishing goals.” As a 6’ 10” High School All-American, he played for Siena College and later transferred to Minnesota State.
But it was his home situation that would most influence his occupational choice. His father had a back injury from a work accident. This helped Lancaster early on realize the importance of insurance and protecting income.
“After school, I worked with Piper Jaffray in Minneapolis,” he said. “After it became part of USBank, I switched to the banking side. I really liked helping business clients reach their goals.” While in the industry, he also worked for a Winona bank and a Mankato insurance agency.
In late 2010, he formed The Lancaster Agency. “I wanted to have the strength and long-term financial security of owning my own business,” he said. “I love the freedom of being able to set my day, visit clients, see how their business runs, and build relationships. One thing making my business special is the wealth of products. I work with about 45 companies, including personal, commercial, health, life, benefits, and disability lines—just about any insurance product. I can fit anyone’s needs.” He is the Minnesota Young Insurance Professionals vice chair and Minnesota Independent Insurance Agents Association Region 10 board representative.
